Protection Net

 

Unlike private vehicles and pickup trucks, off-road vehicles do not provide a barrier between the cargo area and the passenger compartment. In the event of an accident, these objects can harm the passengers. To create such a barrier, I decided to build a separation net.

 

It was decided not to use a net made of nylon straps for several reasons:

- The straps would be wide and therefore block a significant part of the rearview.

- The straps are elastic and, due to their proximity to the passengers' heads, may allow objects to hit them.

 

I used galvanized steel mesh made of a 5mm thick wire, with square openings of 45x45mm. The mesh was inserted into a galvanized U-profile of size 25x15mm, which holds it around its entire perimeter. Spot welds around the edges strengthen it to the profile and prevent noise from movement.

 

The profile assembly is anchored at its bottom to the floor of the cargo area and at its top to the points where the rear seatbelt straps connect to the vehicle body, which provide strong anchoring points. The mesh was sent for sandblasting, roughening (due to galvanization), and painting with black epoxy paint at Aflon.
